Music at Saint Paul’s

As Luther put it, “God has made our hearts and spirits happy through His dear Son…He who believes this sincerely and earnestly cannot help but be happy; he must cheerfully sing.”

Lutherans sing because God put a song in our hearts. He gives us His grace and we sing. Hymnody and musical settings of Scripture help us confess all of what God has done, and give expression to our praise. We don’t use music to manipulate feelings but to declare the Word of God and to pray. The Church’s song is not about ourselves, but Christ crucified, set to music in a way that any generation can sing. Lutherans boast the tradition of the chorale, and musicians such as Dieterich Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, and Johannes Brahms.

To assist the congregation’s worship, St. Paul enjoys a baroque style tracker organ. We also make good use of piano, brass, strings, a bell choir, and a vocal choir. Do you have musical talents that you’d like to contribute to our worship? Let us know!

Choir

"A confessional church is a singing church. As she sings, she makes good her confession, a confession both in word and music." quote by Chad Bird, "Why Lutherans Sing what they Sing".

At St. Paul's, we sing what we confess, celebrating Lutheran theology and beautiful music through Bach, chorales, and Hymns. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, contact the Choir-Director [this will be a hyper-link].
